Pay Matrix Table for Govt Employees in India

The 7th Central Pay Commission has designed a new innovative pay scale table for all categories of Central Government employees (More than 30 lakh employees). The numeric table name is ‘Pay Matrix Table’! The 7th Pay Matrix Table indicates the basic salary with 40-stage increments for Central Government employees. The pay matrix table comprises two dimensions for the entire group of civilian employees. The 7th pay matrix table has a horizontal and verticle range of pay structure. The horizontal structure has Pay Matrix Levels for the post hierarchy and the verticle structure indicates the progression of basic salary.

Pay Matrix Table Special Features

The interesting factor of the 7th pay matrix table has been designed for 40 years (40 Stages)! The pay matrix table contains 540 cells for a total of 760 (19 x 40) cells. The pay levels are indicated at the top of the table (Horizontal position) starting from Level 1 to Level 18 including Level 13A. And the index numbers from 1 to 40 are indicating (vertical position) the stages.

The difference between the pay band and pay level is that the pay band is indicated the classification of posts and the pay level indicates the grade of the post. The Central Pay Commission recommended 3 types of pay matrix tables in its report. One for Civilian employees and another one for Armed Forces Personnel and the third one for MNS officers. The Railway and Postal employees are included in the group of civilian employees.

Union Government revised the 7th Pay Matrix table in the month of June 2017 after the implementation of the 7th CPC report. Pay level 13 was amended in the 7th Pay Matrix table. The Fitment factor has changed from 2.57 to 2.67 for the particular pay level and the pay hierarchy also changed accordingly.
